Gifford Hirlinger is a small family owned estate winery that began in 2001 when the Berghan family established vineyards in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley. It started out simply, growing grapes and selling them to local wineries. Our name is hard to pronounce, we agree, but it actually stems from a seredipidious discovery. Thinking that our family was new to the Walla Walla area, we were delighted to find that both sides of the Berghan family crossed the country in covered wagons in the mid 1800’s and a direct ancestor was born in Walla Walla at that time. Gifford and Hirlinger were the last names of those very relatives.
